Tehran-Muscat ties 'model' for regional countries

TEHRAN, Sep. 05 (MNA) – Iran’s FM Zarif in a meeting with Omani Interior Minister Hamoud al-Busaidi said the relations between the two countries could serve as a model for other countries in the region.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif held a meeting with the Omani Interior Minister Hamoud Bin Faisal al-Busaidi on Sunday in Tehran, where the two sides discussed regional and bilateral issues.

During the meeting, Zarif deemed the good relations between Iran and Oman a result of the will and wisdom of the leaders of both countries, stressing that the Islamic Republic sees no limit in expanding its ties with Oman.

Zarif also highlighted the need for cooperation among all countries for restoring peace and stability to the region, adding “constructive cooperation and mutual understanding should replace the illusion of competition in the region so that we can move past this critical point in history.”

The Iranian minister further noted that instability and insecurity in any country is a threat to other countries, and that the current insecurities will impact the region as well as the world.

The Omani minister, for his part, deemed the relations between the two countries at a good level, calling for the expansion of cooperation in all areas.

“We believe that there is a keen interest from countries in the region to further their relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said.

At the end of the meeting, the two ministers signed a maritime boundary delimitation agreement between Iran and Oman. The agreement was immediately put into effect after the exchange of documents.
